Birth Photography

First off, let me say that I love love love (did I say love?) shooting weddings and engagements. The love two people have makes my job so much easier. Capturing that love in an honest and authentic manner continues to be my goal.

That being said, I have dived headfirst into the world of birth photography. After I had my own little one 21 months ago, I turned towards newborn photography quite a bit. I love it. I love those itty bitties so much! Then I thought, wouldn’t it be fabulous to photograph the actual birth? This is something nobody is concentrating on…all eyes are on the mom to be. What if I were like a fly on the wall getting all those beautiful moments that nobody is noticing? Those tiny seconds that are looked back upon with tears of joy.  Then I realized this is a thing. That there are photographers out there that specialize in this too. Hmmm…  I thought I was being original. Darn, but I can be different in the way I tell the story. In my own way with my own vision.

Below are some images of my latest birth photography story. The actual link to the slideshow (which is far more comprehensive than the stills I have here and oh so beautiful!) is here: Tait’s Birth Story.  This was an amazing woman. And the father was amazing too. The two moms were there and they were amazing as well. Why do I say amazing so much? Because the love that was in that room was extraordinary and to have allowed me in to glimpse a moment such as this was amazing times three!

I look forward to do many many more. I look forward to being THE San Luis Obispo Birth Photographer and the Paso Robles Birth Photographer. Oh heck, lets throw in The Arroyo Grande Birth Photographer too!

Before you ask, yes! I still do weddings!!!

First photos for Baby C

Newborn photography looks so easy. We all have looked at websites at perfect little babies in baskets and said “I can do that”. Yes, I have been guilty of that before. It is actually pretty hard especially when the little ones have other ideas! The result is so worth it though.

Little Baby C came to the studio wide awake. After a few shots we (well momma) did everything we could to get her to sleep. When she finally did, this is what the result was…

Something a little different

So I was thinking of ways to make sports photography more portrait like without it being the standard “yea, I am holding a ball and looking seriously at the camera lens”. You know the kind you got when you were a kid – the ones that looked rather generic. I want to bring youth sports up a notch. I am not a sports photographer per se…that is I don’t go out and shoot a game and then sell prints.

I want to create a moment in youth sports that is a portrait with implied action. I am not sure what to call this type of portrait. Maybe “Stylized Youth Sport Portraits” or something like that. I will get back to you on a name. For now, here is my take on Youth Sports Photography…

The Golden Hour

Happy New Year friends. May this year bring much happiness and prosperity.

While I was out one day scouting for new portrait locations, I ran across this beautiful open field in Cambria. The light was stunning. The next day, with camera gear and a wee model in tow, I set out to capture both the beauty of the boy and the gorgeous light. I hope you like them!

Surf’s up…father and daughter shoot

Who says family portraits need to be everyone sitting pretty underneath a big oak tree? Don’t get me wrong, those can be quite beautiful and look stunning in your living room. But what if you had a special thing that you and your family did? Something that was uniquely you. What if you took that something special and unique and built family photos around that? That is just what this father and daughter did.

Cambria Sunset

In the wee town of Cambria, near Moonstone Beach, you can capture the most amazing sunsets. Here are a few pictures of my friend and my amazing bag of joy; my son.

The beautiful Central Coast

While I wait for wedding season 2015 to start, I have been out and about photographing some great areas here on the coast. Namely Cambria, Cayucos and Morro Bay.  I forgot how much I loved doing landscape photography. I am so glad I have some time to re explore this.

Central Coast Bound

My heart has been here in San Francisco for so long and I have loved every minute of it. It’s unique vibe, cultural niches and the most FANTASTIC restaurants in the world will be missed by this gal.

But times are a changin’. I am from the Central Coast–Cambria to be exact, but have also lived in the gorgeous land of San Luis Obispo, which I will get to later.

Cambria is like a fairy tale place with rocky shores, beautiful sunsets, warm days and cool evenings and a quaint small town atmosphere. There are some gorgeous places to get married here whether it be a lovely indoor event or right on the beach. Cambria has you covered.

If you are searching for a unique and gorgeous spot to marry your beloved, why not give the Cambria Pines Lodge a call. “Cambria Pines Lodge offers extensive grounds and gardens. The Herb Garden, Succulent Garden, Flower Bed, Green Garden, Gazebo Garden, White Garden, Rose Garden, and Organic Kitchen Garden mingle with lawn areas, secluded pathways, ancient pine trees, and outdoor dining areas to make a garden paradise.”

Lodges and hotels not your thing? There are many places along the coast in Cambria if you would like a beach wedding. Check out Moonstone Beach:

At the northern end of Moonstone Beach Drive in Cambria is Leffingwell Landing. The perfect bluff and sand for that cozy beach wedding you are looking for!

Now, if you drive North on Highway 1, you will get to Big Sur…and well, you must know that area is GORGEOUS for weddings! There are dazzling places inside, but it is the great outdoors you want to take advantage of here.

Drive south from Cambria a few miles and you come to the itsy bitsy town of Harmony; population 18. This is an adorable little place that your friends and family will coo over.

Whatever your choice is, this charming coastal hide-away has it. Don’t hesitate to contact me for any questions you may have. My ties run deep here.

Not far from the pristine shores of Cambria lies the uber delightful Paso Robles and its many vineyards. This place is ripe for beautiful backdrops at weddings. The town is a eclectic mix of cowboys and wine tasting. A unique and fun relationship.  There are an abundance of gorgeous venues for every taste, style and budget. Here are just a few of my favorites both in surroundings and yummy wine:

1. Hammer Sky Vineyard and Inn with their award winning Bordeaux wines and picturesque surroundings, you can’t go wrong here.

2. The CaliPaso Winery (I am a sucker or anything Tuscan!)

3. Thacher Winery. This winery specializes in Zinfandel and Rhone wines. Wedding quests will be in for a treat at this charming old fashioned California horse farm and winery.  Can you say a grand barn wedding???

Going back towards San Luis Obispo and my Cal Poly Alma Mater, Cal Poly, we have dozens of wonderful venues. San Luis Obispo was named the happiest place in America by author Dan Buettner.  Of course Oprah got a hold of this in her book club and sent a team out there to see exactly why. It is not hard to see why! Take for instance the Madonna Inn. I have had many cakes from their bakery. Super unique rooms to boot! A very fun San Luis Obispo wedding venue.

Of course you are not tied to the Madonna Inn, there are other fabulous wedding venues in San Luis Obispo and the surrounding areas. Take for instance one of my favorite places on the Central Coast; Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort and Spa.  The weddings here can be either indoor or outdoor depending on the time of year and your taste and vision.

An amazing place is a tiny bit south in Pismo Beach; The Cliffs Resort.  Amazing cuisine, attentive staff and an oceanfront wedding. Does it get any better???

Now of course there is an abundance of beauty up and down the coast. Places like Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Shell Beach, Oceano, Morro Bay, Cayucos and Nipomo have wedding venues like none you will see anywhere else. There are rustic wineries, modern Resorts, charming gardens at local guesthouse and a breathtaking Pacific coastline to indulge every taste. Such a variety, that I cannot even scratch the surface here. Please come take a look at the beautiful Central California Coast and see for yourself. Oh yea, and don’t forget to give me a ring if you have any questions about your wedding photography needs! My local number is (805) 250-6606

Finally the new website is here…and a few landscape shots!

I am so excited that my new and improved website is here. You will see many changes; from the larger than life images to the new FAQ section to the all new packages available. Props go out to my amazing web developer as he worked tirelessly and followed my vision to perfection.

In celebration, I am putting up a few of my landscape shots from my resent road trip to Sandpoint Idaho.

I hope you take the time to look through my website and maybe peak at my landscapes. I am looking forward to the 2014 wedding season!!!
